在网上看到的,普通西人也是很努力的想要工作。不像华人想象的吃福利。

I just wanted to share something that happened to me today.
After what feels like my 800th interview this week, I had to go to the store to get jam of all things. That's it, just a small jar of jam. I was laid off from my job of 11 years due to Covid the beginning of January. I was devastated. I have been working since I was 16 years old, and this hit me hard. I've been depressed and trying to go to interviews based on my experience as a peppy customer service agent while severely depressed and each decline of my application tearing me down even more.
Anyway, while I was checking out, I go to pay and said to the cashier "just the jam, and I'm so sorry, I will have to use my debit". That's when this angel of a woman turned to me and said "how much is it?". Confused and thinking she was simply interested in also purchasing a jar of this jam (no sugar added raspberry is pretty amazing, lol) I simply said "oh, it's $4.50". She reaches into her wallet and pulls out a $5 and despite my efforts in telling her, it was perfectly fine, I just didn't want to give the cashier a $50 bill for the jam (plus it was my last amount of cash and I was holding onto it desperately for as long as possible), that I could afford the jam (hardly), she would not take no for an answer. I was speechless and couldn't believe it. After I got my receipt I caught up to her and explained to her how much that meant to me and how my life had been so terrible as of late and I just thanked her and told her "I was just laid off the beginning of this month". She simply replied with "God knows" and I am not religious in the slightest, but that touched my heart and I cried to myself in my car after I left the parking lot so no one could see me (lol).
This month has been awful. I am an exceptional employee and I am incredible at my job and what I do. However, I am TERRIBLE at interviews. Absolutely horrible. I can prepare for an interview for hours, no, DAYS and the second I sit in that chair, my mind goes blank. So, if anyone is hiring... LOL, only kidding (sort of). I just wanted to say thank you to that kind woman. I hope I am some how, some way able to tell her that because she is the best thing that happened to me this month, and I want her to know she is amazing.
***UPDATE*** I posted this yesterday around 2pm. I was offered and accepted position! I HAVE A JOB!!! ❤ I just wanted to share this amazing story with everyone and hopefully find this angel!

    • 吃福利的不是普通西人,是贫困西人 +3
      • 这个人不够穷?
    • 这还要从网上看吗?难道你身边没有西人同事吗?
      • 同事没这个人这么穷 +1
